He is known for being the head coach of the Green Bay Packers during the 1960s, where he led the team to five NFL championships in seven years in addition to winning the first two Super Bowls following the 1966 and 1967 NFL seasons. Lombardi is considered by many as one of the best and most successful coaches in football history.

Lombardi was born in Brooklyn, New York in 1913 to Italian immigrant parents. He was the oldest of five children. After graduating from the local public school, he went on to attend Fordham University, where he became a member of the football team. After obtaining his degree, Lombardi contemplated becoming a priest but decided to pursue a career in football instead.
